Greetings heroes/citizens,it’s here!!! The Old Snake from the PS3’s game, Metal Gear Solid 4: The Guns of Patriots action figure arrived today about 10.30 am something, this morning. The box is huge. I won this from ebay auction, for $139 including shipping from Hong Kong. Retail price for this figure is about $199 excluding shipping. This action figure is from Medicom Toy licensed from Konami. This is the fourth Metal Gear Solid line from Medicom RAH, I think(correct me if I’m wrong, please). Before this they have Snake in squares camo and snake camo , also normal Snake. This figure is 1:6 scale figure, it’s stand about 300 mm tall.
Packaging; Snake was laid on a piece of black matt plastic tray, and then was put in a clear plastic tray covered by a clear plastic cover. Nothing to hold or tied him, no twisties or rubber band. The box was dusted effect, it’s not very gloss. The graphics for the box, I think was done by Ashley Wood, Metal Gear Solid’s comics artist. You can see the comics here. I’m a fan of his works.
Design/sculpt; the design is just like in the game. I like with what they done on the suit, it covered the whole body with a soft vinyl material that make it look so cool. Although it does limit the poses of the figure, personally I like this material used on the figure. It make Snake look more realistic, just like in the game. His arms has no problems when it come to posing but his legs is a bit tricky to do so. Although the vinyl is a bit annoying when I try to pose it in a different poses, the thing I really need to watch out for when “playing” with this figure is the fabrics items,(his vest and pouches). They’re so tiny and very detail, they use a very tiny Velcro and for the straps. I’m worried if I handled it too much they (fabrics/pouches) will fall off.On his front vest, thee is a Japanese character and under the character a word saying “To let The World Be” , I don’t know what it mean
There is no extra fist for this figure, in fact there is no fist to take off at all! The fist was made one with the suit. Head sculpt, I think, Snake’s face look a bit thin and he looks like an Asian guy
Articulations; they (Medicom Toy) claimed that they used metal for the joint, and of course there is no way I can prove it cause I don’t want to take off his suit. Just like any other Medicom RAH, the articulations are great, but their potential were shadowed by the cloth (in this case vinyl), costumes. Ball joints on his neck, torso and hip.
Colorings; the color is great overall, but I think they should add some touch up on Snake’s face, he looks a bit pale. The suits color is nice and detail, nothing to complain on that. The pistol’s, rifle’s and knife’s color are also not bad.
Accessories; not much just three weapons and a stand and base. The weapons are a Sopmod Assault Rifle, a CQC knife and pistol, I think it’s a Beretta I don’t know, but maybe some 9 mm pistol. The stand and base is made of clear plastic, for holding it if you like to display it, but for me ,”back in the box Snake!”
Should you buy it or not? I say yes if you don’t mind about the suit making this figure’s pose limited, or if you’re a die hard fans of Hideo Kojima’s MGS. I bought this because I missed the earlier version of Snake.
